All Seeing
This piece is a technical study in contrast, both in subject and in style. Titled "All Seeing," this painting marries the disciplined craft of realism with the chaotic energy of surrealism. The challenge was to render a shrimp with the highest possible fidelity, creating a serious foundation for an unserious object: a single googly eye. The title itself is ironic—a grand name for a creature whose all-seeing eye is just a piece of plastic. The painting is about that friction between the sacred and the silly. Watch the process unfold in the attached time-lapse video.
Core
Titled "Core," this realist painting elevates an object we typically discard into a subject of focused beauty. The goal was to take something mundane and, through the act of careful observation and detailed rendering, reveal its intricate and sculptural form. It’s an invitation to find aesthetic value in the overlooked, the leftover, and the imperfect. The entire process of transforming this humble object is documented in the accompanying speed-paint video.
Jelly
This realist painting, "Jelly," is a technical study in how light interacts with transparent and translucent forms. The goal was to capture the complex play of reflections, refractions, and highlights as light passes through both the clear, hard glass and the soft, coloured jelly. It’s an exploration of how different materials bend and hold light, finding immense beauty in the physics of a simple dessert. The entire meticulous process of rendering these delicate effects is viewable in the speed-paint video.
